Alison suggested yesterday that I create a blog. Apparently, she finds my "Barn Duty" somewhat entertaining, and thinks perhaps the Whole Wide Web World Will as Well. (whew, that's a lot of w's.) "Barn Duty," as I've come to abbreviate to BD for my friends and family, is my twice daily trip, 7 miles up the road from my home (to Alison & David's barn) to care for and feed my beloved baby girl horse... my 3-year-old registered Paint filly... Silk. (Aka, Silkie, Silkie Sweet, Sweetie, Sweet Sweet, Princess, Wench, Bratt and then it goes a lot further downhill from there, but you get the basic idea.
So, last night, the more I thought about Alison's Blog idea, the more I warmed to it. Though, not just to share the zaniness of all the Animal Planet things that happen at "BD," which I believe was her initial thought...but because it can truly be a win/win/win/win/win/win opportunity (more W's!!). The sweeeeeeeet, key chance here though, is that the Blog's purpose, is really not about me, it's about PEOPLE--
my peeps--friends, family, acquaintances, customers, all-- past and future--it's about RELATIONSHIPS, and the overwhelming challenges of keeping in touch and maintaining "Real Meaningfulness" with so many.
Hence, the name...Six Degrees? Why Not Five.
Ticking time is the enemy here....it marches, relentless to the weary--chews us up, spits us out. It swirls along tornadic, sucking up all the lives around it, all the while cutting and slicing that wide vacant swath, now littered with memories' debris. Time. I think about it a lot. It takes time to think about time.......is that time wasted or well spent? I am endlessly battling, trying to find ways to jam more stuff, do more things, get more done... into a FINITE number.... 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds. That's a day. That's all there is. There is no more. At some point, realistically, nothing more can fit. That's the irony of it. The Cursed Blessing of new, improved technology drives me to incessantly believing that I can get more done. I just need to get more organized and more structured and block time for this and block time for that. I think more about time and ask myself again--that fleeting thought-- well spent or wasted? BD is my peaceful, sometimes comic relief, my respite from the daily torture of time management. My right brain activity...as Kim Fox says.
So here I am, hooked to the Cursed Blessing of the Web.....with the ability to reach out, touch and share unfathomably more than just BD and my own little corner of peeps--my six degrees. A pilot, with the SixDegrees? WhyNotFive Blog as my instrument. I embrace the occasion to share adventure, reflection, tranquility and yaw, but mostly I relish more easily bridging the connections, narrowing the gaps and closing that separation of six degrees---
and digging for five.
Tick, tick, tick.
